Nozaki Salt Residence

Though Kojima is well known for its Jeans Street and denim products, the Nozaki Historical Residence is by far the most impressive historical monument in the town.

The residence was built in 1927 by the head of the Nozaki Salt Enterprise, Buzaemon Nozaki. Buzaemon was called the “King of Salt Lords” due to his great success in his Seto Inland Sea salt fields.

The Nozaki Residence covers about 9,900 square meters. Rows of storehouses, gardens, living quarters, and production rooms give visitors a look into the lives of this family of salt royalty.
