Japan’s biggest market of “Dagashi,” Penny Candy
Did you sometimes drop in at a penny candy store on the way home when you were a little kid? Do you remember how happy you felt after having bought some small sweets from the store? Nowadays it seems difficult to have such an experience, though.
I would like to introduce here a special place which might make a memorable day of your trip. In this market you can play with traditional toys or create some original work using sweets. Just the sight of it made me happy and smile.
I visited the market together with my family and relatives including a 2-year-old kid to 70-year-old grandmother. All grown-ups felt nostalgic thinking back those memories from their childhood, and children were happy choosing sweets and putting them into their baskets. We all had an enjoyable time.
Soon after we made a payment for our own choice of sweets, we sat at the table and enjoyed the taste of them.
This is about an hour drive from Okayama City. If you visit on your drive, I am sure you will actually see and experience unique Japanese culture.
