Rural Caprine Farm
Located 30 minutes by car from Okayama city, Rural Caprine Farm is a unique day-trip getaway from all the streetlights and concrete. By train, Joto Station is a 13 minute ride from Okayama Station. From there you can either take a scenic 30 minute walk (and soak in the pleasant scenery) or hop on a 10 minute taxi ride.
The farm is home to over 20 goats, several horses, and a boar (for now). The owner, Makoto Kobayashi, and his small crew milk the goats everyday and make a variety of excellent dairy products, including: cheese, yogurt, and ice cream.
The petting-zoo aspect of the farm is fun, but Mr. Kobayashi’s patrons mainly come to sit back and relax while savoring menu items only found at Rural Caprine Farm. Our group enjoyed a panino set for ¥1,700 (which included a goat cheese and goat meat panino with herbed navy beans and Italian soda). They offer a variety of beers, wines, coffee, desserts, and barbecue courses as well. While the menu items aren’t cheap, everyone I saw at the farm had a smile on their face.
If you’re in the Okayama area, want to kick back with friends, and meet some happy goats, try out Rural Caprine Farm! Here’s a link to their website for more information. www.yagimilk.com
